once grateful, always grateful

i woke up at ten in the morning to fix my bed and wash the shot glasses that my cousin and i had used this morning.  i have been sleeping at five in the morning ever since i flew into town so some yoga helped stretch my aching body from all the shindigs.  all that walking around the strip may have already topped the five-mile runs i do everyday.  noticing my cousin’s pad, all i could say is some things never change.   he still brought his penchant for keeping his place dark by keeping the curtains and blinds closed during the entire day.  over ten years ago, the blinds to his room were always sealed shut so his mom wouldn’t even think about bothering him sleeping in all day.  and now i am surprised he still did the same thing to his place. i’m not sure how his lady is putting up with this, but i wanted to tweak things a bit by starting out the new year’s day a bit “brighter.” the clear blue skies around his sunny summerlin neighborhood just made me want to do something different. i wanted to make the most out of the gorgeous weather so i propped the blinds open in his pad to let the sun in.   his girlfriend made green tea so i briefly chatted with her over kashi trail mix breakfast bars before she headed out to the forum shops at ceasar’s palace.  “i’m sure the stores are going to be packed today,” she declared.  she said she still had to buy gifts for her folks in japan before they fly in to visit this year.  i suppose several people like to start the new year off with the right mind-set for abundance.  don’t get me wrong, i’ve got a belief system myself nailed down to a tee.

in a couple days i must have covered the places that i needed to visit sans the gambling urges.  texas hold’em is only a d aily toil diversion and i’m glad i don’t have one of those dealer table impulses.  not really into shopping but i ended up dropping some mula on things that i will definitely use in the future.  met a lot of great and wonderful people from coast to coast, from analysts in oc, stockbrokers in jersey, someone from monterey who’s taking over the parents’ real estate development contract for trump tower las vegas, ladies and fellas, to just plain everybody all over.  forgive me for filtering my own positive perception of reality, but people around the strip were all in good vibes about the new year’s celebration.  the business cards were put to good use.

it’s past one now – pacific time – and my cousin is still marinating in his room.  i’m fine with lounging today before we drive down to mccarran airport, but some driving range swings, having lunch with great people, and the usuals should corroborate this fine new year’s day.  as of now, all i can say is “thank you” for a blessed year in 2006 and i’m looking forward to a greater spiritual, physical, mental, and financial abundance in ’07.  i have seen several of over a hundred of my written goals materialize and i would like to keep a positive attitude in attaining the rest.  moreso, i am hoping to fly back to the playground a couple times this year to strenghten business networks, just to visit, or to ponder on entertaining this new vegas bug about purchasing a good investment down the road.  sin city – and several great events – will once again turn into a wonderful memory as i look over my jetblue window tonight to watch the strip lights fade away into snow-covered nevada darkness.

HA! You  mean if you ever hit up the east coast, then you can order that in philly. Then again, why would you ever dare to fly east when you have everything and more on the west?! Philly is dirty and boring but I luv it. Have a great week. πŸ™‚

aww but all the good buffets have long lines in Vegas! But I imagine is was insanely longer because of the holiday weekend. Ah well, maybe next year…..which is when we’ll be back! Unless a random trip comes up….which is likely to happen. πŸ™‚

  14. I don’t usually buy into the New Year’s resolution stuff, but even a cynic like me can appreciate the feeling of optimism that comes with January 1st. I’m hoping 2007 will be a better year than 2006 was. But you know, even not-so-great years end up being alright, if for no other reason than having learned and grown from them. Hope you’re still feeling cheery!
